We hired Ronnie for our wedding, and he absolutely killed it! He provided the music for our ceremony and kept the reception going all night with an awesome playlist and great energy. Before the big day, we talked through exactly how we wanted everything to flow, and he paid attention to every little detail. He was always honest about what he could and couldn’t do, which made the whole planning process so easy and stress-free. We also booked his photo booth, and he went above and beyond creating the backdrop. He kept making changes until it was exactly how I wanted it as he truly cared about getting everything perfect. DJ Ronnie Roux did an excellent job providing what the Society of Wetland Scientists wanted when it hired him to provide background music to the opening reception of our 2024 Annual Conference (~450 attendees mostly from North America) at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel.  One thing we wanted was music that would allow networking but also facilitate a fun atmosphere and get some people on a dance floor.  The other thing that we wanted was music focused on a variety of Louisiana genres ranging from Traditional Jazz, Cajun, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, Bounce, as well as artists from Louisiana who specialized in R&B and Rock-n-Roll (Fats Domino, Eddie Bo, Erma Thomas, etc.).  He even adjusted when rain forced our venue inside a room too small for our crowd.

We cannot say enough good things about Ronnie. This man UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT! First of all: he's so easy to work with. Vibes = 10/10. He is prompt and communicative and takes your requests/concerns seriously. His customer service was impeccable, which you don't really find often these days. Secondly: we wanted our wedding to feel like the best dance party you've ever been to and he delivered! We're about a week and a half past our wedding and we have people texting us that they're still sore from the dance floor! All of our guests raved about the set list, it had a great mix of modern jams and songs that our parents could dance to and clean versions of rap classics. Each song also transitioned seamlessly into the other (Spotify AI could literally never). If you need a DJ for anything, Ronnie is the man to hire. No notes, would hire again and again and would recommend him to anyone!

Book a Band or DJ?

Both a band and DJ can provide great entertainment. Is one better than the other? We can’t pick a side on this debate. Each option has pros and cons. Just like bands, DJ’s have many different skill levels and production value. Since we are a DJ service, some pros are listed below. Entertainment: DJs can provide a festive atmosphere and keep the crowd entertained throughout the event. They can also act as the emcee for announcements.

Music: Music can be curated to the expected audience. Song choices are more than a band can do. Bands will have limitations with songs in their library.

Budget: DJs are often cheaper than a medium / large band.

Breaks: Unlike most bands, the DJ does not break during a standard 3-5 hour event. This allows the party to continuously flow. Events greater than 5 hours may require some type of break.

Crowd reading: Having a live DJ read the crowd is very important. If the order of songs is on an auto playlist, the timing could be off. With a live DJ, song orders change with feedback from crowd reactions. An adept New Orleans DJ can read the crowd and adjust the music accordingly.
